The challenge
A regional retailer experienced an overnight plumbing leak that damaged stock and facilities. Store managers also wanted better information about HVAC maintenance needs.
The monitoring setup
The deployment combined leak detection near water heaters and plumbing with temperature, access and equipment measurements. Each store sent data through a gateway to a shared monitoring view.
The reported outcome
Monnit describes a subsequent water-heater-closet leak detected by a water puck. The manager was able to shut off the supply before water reached stock. Maintenance requests could also be informed by trends in HVAC readings.

Door sensors indicate opening events; they do not identify a person or replace an intruder alarm.
How do the sensors connect?
ALTA sensors need a compatible gateway, internet connection and monitoring software. Suitable Wi-Fi models connect through a compatible Wi-Fi network. Confirm radio frequency, coverage and power arrangements at the actual installation points before choosing equipment.

Timing depends on sensor settings, reporting intervals, connectivity and notification rules. Email, SMS and voice options vary by service and plan. Test a controlled event, check that the nominated person receives it and confirm what happens if a device stops reporting.
